Lapantha Academy
A Flagship HMB Foundation Initiative
Basketball • Education • Inclusion
A long-term youth development and education initiative using basketball to create opportunity, leadership, and inclusion in Mali.
What It Is
The Lapantha Academy Initiative uses the power of basketball to support youth development in Mali by integrating education, life skills, and inclusive sport — especially for girls and youth with intellectual disabilities.
The Lapantha Academy is led by the Hamchetou Maiga-Ba Foundation (a U.S.-based 501(c)(3)), rooted in Mali’s community needs and guided by global best practices in sport, education, and inclusion.
Lapantha Academy is designed to create pathways for young people to grow with structure, purpose, and community support.
Why Mali. Why Now
-
Mali faces significant challenges today, including security and access limitations.
-
The Hamchetou Maiga-Ba Foundation is committed to a phased, responsible approach that prioritizes youth development, safety, and long-term local partnerships.
-
Lapantha Academy is designed to grow sustainably, beginning with camps, training partnerships, and infrastructure planning.
A Phased, Responsible Approach
We implement the initiative in phases to ensure safety, sustainability, and lasting local impact:
Phase 1 — Camp & Program Foundations
-
Short-term camps and basketball clinics
-
Coach education and community engagement
-
Life skills and educational sessions
Phase 2 — Community Partnerships
-
Deepening local collaborations
-
Strengthening inclusion streams
Phase 3 — Academy Development
-
Planning and implementing a permanent hub for sport, learning, and leadership
This phased model allows HMBF to grow responsibly in context.
